IF YOUR RADIO
Is already running digital modes (Psk, etc.) controlled by a Computer-to-Rig connection, sound card and software, You are ready for SSTV !
HOW MUCH POWER ?
Bottom line - 500w. is Better but with favorable propagation 75 watts or less can get through

THINK ABOUT IT...LANDING A QSO IS A LOT LIKE... FISHING!
- You MUST use a stable sound card and a means of activating radio PTT.
- Because SSTV is 'another' sound card mode, sound card and PTT configuration used for other digital modes (like PSK) will likely work for SSTV.
- An EXTERNAL sound card (or sound card Interface) is highly recommended. A built-in computer sound card may NOT be stable enough for SSTV. An interface will also provide (1) an easy way to adjust sound levels, (2) isolation of computer sounds, (3) isolation of stray RF, and (4) a simplified way to configure an external PTT circuit.
- PTT can be activated by CAT control if the radio has a data port to link the computer and/or Interface to Software control settings. You can also use PTT in the Mic line.
- TURN OFF MIC. AUDIO processors. Rx PREAMP may be ON.
- Set the MODE to USB and WIDEN the Rx/Tx SSB Bandwidth to approximately 3 kHz.
- Assign the proper Sound Card I/O in Computer / Interface / and Software.
- Signal window in Software WILL BECOME ACTIVE when the Proper Sound Card I/O boxes are assigned. (see the picture below.)
- Go to 14.230 MHz USB, a popular frequency, and wait for activity. Activity may be dependent on band propagation and time of day. Other frequencies are listed HERE
- Poor band conditions or wrong time of day is a BIG reason for poor/no images.
- Visit Paul Young, G0HWC's fantastic SSTV site for additional information !!
- USE SSTV SOFTWARE'S SIMPLE, BUILT-IN PHOTO EDIT AND TEXT ADDITION CAPABILITIES.
- IMPORT IMAGES TO SEND FROM COMPUTER, CAMERA, INTERNET.
